In memory of our beloved Susan Purvis
Whirled Peace–In memory of our beloved Susan Purvis, come join us at Gibbs Magnet School in the cafeteria on Tuesday, July 21st from 11:00-1:00 to craft a pinwheel and share wonderful memories, a few tears, and lots of hugs! The pinwheels will be used as part of the memorial service/reception. If you cannot make it to the Gibbs event, feel free to craft a pinwheel at home (Follow this link for the pinwheel template.) and drop it off at the school during this time or mail it directly to Gibbs:

The memorial service will be on Wednesday, the 22nd, at 1:00 at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. There will be a reception afterwards. If you want to wear all black, please feel free to do so, but Mrs. Purvis loved color, so you are encouraged to add some to your outfits. Know that it will be appropriate to sport bright colors.
Finally, click here to read a really nice tribute to Mrs. Purvis from Max Brantley. Not only is the story touching, some of the comments are really beautiful, just like Mrs. Purvis.

Susan was my teacher when I was in 7th grade – she was so kind, full of compassion and joy, creativity and such well felt care at one of the hardest times in a pre-teen crazy life. Flash forward decades when we ended up as partners and colleagues in a teacher training grant…we picked right up. I was a “novice” teacher of 17 years. She became a great adviser in dealing with my own tween – still so gentle and filled with the same enthusiastic curiosity to authentically know everything she could to be of help. What a heavy loss for the AR art and education community. Her gentility will linger long I think.

We were deeply saddened by the news. Our heart felt condolences to the family.
